dexamethasone
- Question
- Hello,
What side reactions has dexamethasone? It is possible to increase blood sugar? - Answer
- I will try to answer your question. Mainly high doses of steroids for long time may have side effects like increasing the blood level of glucose. We suppose that you are talking about a patient with CF who received dexamethasone for an associated pathology? Increases in blood glucose may have several causes, being possible associated with cystic fibrosis once diabetes mellitus associated with cystic fibrosis occurs. Other side effects can be fluid and salt retention (swelling), hypertension, decreased immunity etc-again-mainly in case of long time therapy and high dosages. It is important to avoid salty food (no salt) when receive steroids treatment. Maybe you can give us some more details. For any further questions please ask a question.
Sincerely yours,
Popa Prof.Dr.Ioan
