Vacation in Italy

Question
Hello,
We are going on vacation for 15 days in Italy.
Are there any trained respiratory physiotherapists and what about the the French Health Insurance coverage regarding the care expenses reimbursement?
Answer
Hello,
First, it is important if not have already done, to get your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). You can demand it:
- on line: log onto your ameli / "My requests" account
- by phone: call 36 46 (price of a local call from a landline)
- on site, by going to a host of your Health Insurance points.
By clicking on the following link, you will find on the website of the French Health Insurance all the necessary information in case of loss or theft of the card or care during the stay. If you need to advance medical expenses, prefer payment by credit card: it has the advantage of traceability of payment and, often, additional insurance coverage.

There are in Italy as well as in France specialized CF centers that include physiotherapists in their teams. The organization of physiotherapy at home or in private practice, however, is rather peculiar in France. It is likely that you have difficulties in finding an available therapist in Italy except if you go to the hospital for a pulmonary exacerbation. To find the contacts of the Italian CF centers, click on the following link:

You can also contact the physiotherapist of your CF Center in France in order to prepare your holiday departure and:
- remind the importance of proper hydration and additional salt intake in case of hot weather;
- find acceptable alternatives transiently to overcome the lack of usual physiotherapy (physical activity, respiratory movements, singing ...)
- or, by taking it in advance, registration of parents or patients in airway clearance techniques training sessions
Enjoy your vacation in Italy.
