Dimension of premises

Question
Hello,
I have to outline plans for premises of a CF Center. I will use the existing premises. I need to know if there are standards to meet especially for CF premises or if it can be similar to usual consulting rooms:
- Consultation room
- Physiotherapy room
- Multipurpose room (meeting room)
- Nursing Office
- Reception and waiting room
Thank you for your help
Answer
Hello,
There are general recommendations for the construction and technical operation of healthcare facilities. You can view by clicking the following link [in French]:

www.sante.gouv.fr/IMG/pdf/Guide_d_acces_a_la_reglementation_et_aux_recommandations_relatives_a_la_construction_et_au_fonctionnement_technique_des_etablissements_de_sante.pdf

For cons, I'm not aware of normatives for a specific pathology, for instance CF.
However, you ask an important question because the configuration and equipment of the premises are a key determinant of the quality and safety of care, especially for cystic fibrosis. The arguments that determine an ideal organization of the premises can be deducted from the National Protocol for Diagnosis and Care (PNDS) for cystic fibrosis, which recommends:
- outpatient follow-up visits at the CF Center, scheduled at least quarterly;
- including a systematic assessment by 3 members of the multidisciplinary team (doctor, nurse, physiotherapist) and other members as required;
- performing some scheduled tests including biological samples (blood, sputum);
- and the particularly strict adherence to hygiene measures to prevent nosocomial infections and cross infections;
- this hospital stay lasting 2 or 3 hours.
These sole recommendations may justify an outpatient visit organization in day hospitalization premises in order to meet the best conditions for clinical evaluation, comfort, hygiene and safety:
- an individual patient room equiped of devices for measuring weight, height, BAP and performing clinical examination (plus if possible independent restrooms) ;
- consecutive visits of the MDT members into the patient room ;
- close to a technical platform including a pulmonary function test room ;
- with a relaxation area for accompanying persons (possibly financed by patient organizations).
Such organization is unfortunately not always possible due to a lack of suitable premises. In their absence, the minimum requirement is to ensure the safety of care, particularly as regards hygiene supervised by the Committee for nosocomial infections prevention :
- Segregation of patients (outpatient visit scheduling related to the patient's germ class);
- Display and application of hygiene and disinfection protocols that should be accessible by the public;
- Provision of suitable equipment (sinks, sanitary, alcohol-distributor (SHA) and various materials for single use (gloves, masks ...)
- Air filtration device in respiratory physiotherapy room if not performed in the patient’s room.
Hope that this answer is helpful.
