bronchial stent

Question
This morning, I saw on TV that it is possible to put a bronchial stent which allows to increase respiratory function and avoid oxygen therapy for some respiratory diseases. I have oxygen and I ask for the possibility of this treatment in cystic fibrosis.
Answer
Hello,
I think you speak about a bronchial stent used for emphysema patients which permit trapped air to be evacuated by a bronchial valve. This treatment can’t be used in cystic fibrosis.

However, after lung transplantation, we can see bronchial suture stenosis which could be dilated in bronchoscopy. In case of recurrence, it is possible to put a stent to keep open the bronchial suture and to have a good bronchial diameter.
