Research on animals

Question
Hello

Are animals used in the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis?

Best regards
Answer
Hello
The development of any drug has necessarily to involve steps to verify the tolerance and efficacy of the drugs prior to administration to humans.
The animal model is unavoidable to assure maximal security of the patients who will be treated.
Tests performed regarding the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis respect the ongoing legislation for animals-protection used for research: the use of animals should be replaced, reduced and improved as far as possible.
In this context, the use of “in vitro” (as cell lines) or “ex-vivo” models (as tissues, organoïdes…) is particularly developed.
