Ochrobactrum anthropi

Question
To whom it may concern,
please give me information about Ochrobactrum anthropi and its importance in CF-patients.
Thank you
Answer
Hello Questioner
This bacterium is a very unusual infecting organism in people with Cystic Fibrosis. There are a few reports in the literature of infection with Ochrobactum anthropi. The bacterium is in some ways similar to Pseudomonas aeruginosa as it occurs in the environment often associated with damp conditions. It tends to be resistant to the usual antibiotics we use in CF. There are no robust reports of this bacterium causing chronic infection so it may be a transient infecting bacterium. However, if it is associated with symptoms, antibiotics are appropriate and these would need to be determined locally according to the laboratory tests to determine sensitivity and resistance to antibiotics.
