Atelectasis: My 15yr old daughter experienced an atelectasis in her right lung. She has been treated with IV antibiotics, airway clearance techniques and bronchoscopy for the past 6 weeks and the atelectasis is now 80% resolved. It seems that this problem may come back again despite rh-DNAse and airway clearance techniques. What are the risks associated with recurrent atelectasis?; 24.06.2013

Training to perform intravenous antibiotic treatment - traning for care for relatives: My husband has CF. It's more and more difficult to find nurses who agree to stay at home during the time intravenous antibiotics are given. I would like to receive training and be allowed to prepare and perform the intravenous antibiotics. Could you tell me if this kind of training exists and if so, where should I go to ? F508/R1162X: Dear ladies und gentlemen, unfortunately we have to assume that our unborn son (31 st week of gestation) has inherited the mutations F508 and R1162X, as we are both each heterozygous carrier of one of those mutations and in the last prenatal ultrasound investigations always an echogenic bowel could be detected. Could you give us some information about the drugs Ataluren, VX-809 and Ivacaftor? Which centers in Germany take part in studies? Does it make sense to try such a therapy early in our child, in case after birth the suspicion of CF should be confirmed, in spite of the fact that he is not homozygous for the respective mutation? What else can be done, in order to treat the illness from the beginning as good as possible? Hypoglycemia: Hello, My son, eleven months old with cystic fibrosis, was hospitalized for three days after hypoglycemia (he woke up one morning in a hypotonic state and he was not able to remain upright, emergency blood glucose was 0.39). The first results are ok, nothing has been detected, we expect more extensive assessments to detect any metabolic disease. I just wanted to know if hypoglycemia could be related to cystic fibrosis, if you know of any similar cases ... Thank you.; 19.06.2013

cystic fibrosis and meeting with dolphins: A big thank you to Dr. Ravilly for her response on the opportunity to swim with dolphins. We retain a possible offer for swimming in the sea or ocean but not in the dolphinarium (risk of transmission in two directions). Last question: what about the meeting at the edge of the dolphinarium pool with possible contact (touch the dolphin or kiss but no contact with water)?
