- I would like to ask if the inhalation therapy with salmeterol (long-lasting beta-memetics) and fluticasone in Seretide® can affect the result of the sweat test (ours was 26).

- Why my 16-year-old CF boy has never received a treatment with N-acetylcysteine? Is this drug not indicated in such a disease? My daughter suffering from a viral bronchitis has been treated with N-acetylcysteine. Thanks for your response.

- Mycobacterium simiae
- My daughter has been receiving ceftazidime and amikacin, followed by meropenem and amikacin and clarythromycin 500 mg bid. Because of gastrointestinal side effects, the dose of clarythromycin was recently reduced but my daughter had to stop this treatment due to these side effects. Is there another oral treatment for M. simiae?

- Elastase
- My pediatrician requested a measure of elastase for my 6 year old daughter who for four years now has a chronic cough and sputum, sometimes with fever all winter despite the antibiotics, nasal sprays that bring no improvement. However, the summer, she's fine. Chest radiography and sinuses are normal. Is elastase used only to diagnose cystic fibrosis? Thank you for your answer.

- Hello, my daughter (10 years, suffering from cystic fibrosis) was found during a visit to the emergency (tarchycardia, low grade fever, loss of sight - she saw only black and red, weakness, tremors of the limbs) to have an abnormally low potassium in the blood. Everything was back to normal after perfusion with potassium chloride. I add that we have already "visited" several times the emergencies and pediatric cardiologist for similar symtoms, ECG was normal, my daughter eats fruits and vegetables that contain potassium. I would like to know where this lack of potassium can come from, is it related to the disease and the ion exchange does not work? How to recognize in time this dysfunction (tachycardia is occurring whenever suddenly, but there must be some other signs before?)? Thank you for your response

- Midges in the kitchen
- Hello, We have many midges that we fail to kill. They are in the sink of the kitchen (although we do not let anything hang in the sink). We were advised to use insecticide suitable for this kind of situation, but is it reasonable in relation to the potential toxicity of the product and with a person with cystic fibrosis living in the appartment? Do the midges have an effect on the surrounding hygiene (they fly everywhere)?

- Multi-resistant Pseudomonas after lung transplant
- Our 24-year-old son has been having multi-resistant Pseudomonas for ca. 18 months now. He received a lung transplant three weeks ago. Since he was in an induced coma four weeks prior to the transplantation, he does not have any muscles anymore and is now still in intensive care. What about the disinfection of our house and especially of his room and all his clothes? Which things can be disinfected how? Which have to be discarded in order for him not to catch multi-resistant germs again? Kind regards.

- Complementary inhalation with alkaline solutions sensible?
- Paul McGray in Iowa was recently able to show that inhalatoin with alkaline solutions normalizes the PH value of the lungs (e.g. McCray P. Inflammation and infection, lessons from the CF pig model. 35th European Cystic Fibrosis Conference, Dublin, Ireland, 6–9 June, 2012). Are any corresponding studies in humans known or planned? After all, some alkaline solutions such as Emser® inhalation solution have already been approved. Many thanks in advance.

- Baby is a carrier of G542x, Negative Sweat Test
- I had a question. Our daughter is a carrier of G542x. Her sweat test was negative. My wife and I are starting to think about having another baby and am confused about what I have found online. If I am the carrier of G542x and my wife has any of the other 1800 known mutations, can my next child still inherit CF? Or does it have to be the exact same gene? (g542x) Sincerely, M.

- Vase of flowers
- Hello, We were told in our center it was better to avoid plants ... Should we also be afraid of a vase of cut flowers, and therefore containing stagnant water (especially in relation to P. aeruginosa)? Thank you for your site, your answers and your time spent to respond.
