- Dear CF team, I have been making the same recurring experience for several iv therapies: Before the iv: a lot of sputum and low physical fitness. One week after the start of the iv: less and lighter-colored sputum and better physical fitness –lasting for a few days. Starting with day 11 of the iv: more sputum and worse physical fitness again – comparable to the condition before the iv – lasting until the end of the iv (day 14) and afterwards. Further information: iv due to Pseudomonas and iv with Gernebcin® (tobramycin) (once a day 700mg) and Ceftazidime (3x2 grams) over two weeks. [Translator’s note: the original question had "Ceftafizim" – this was changed into "Ceftazidime."] My doctor cannot explain the deterioration during iv. What could be the possible causes for the positive effect under iv to vanish while the iv is still running, and how could these be clarified?

- Causes of hair loss
- Dear expert team, Since an exacerbation at the end of March 2012, which was probably caused by ABPA, I (25, female, CF) have to take several additional drugs. Around May 2012 I noticed that I am losing decidedly more hair than earlier. I initially blamed the itraconazole I had started taking, since hair loss is one of the side effects mentioned in the package insert; however, I have stopped taking itraconazole more than six weeks ago and the hair loss has not gotten better. I am therefore wondering whether another one of the new drugs could be the cause of the hair loss: cortisone p.o., Singulair® (Montelukast sodium), Spiriva® (tiotropium bromide), Viani® (fluticasone/ salmeterol) (earlier: Viani mite®). What else could be the cause, or can itraconazole have such a long-lasting effect? I have tried iron tablets and other home remedies from the pharmacy, which have not helped, of course. It is not yet so bad that one sees it much, but I would like to avoid that in advance. Many thanks for your help.

- Dear expert team, does hypertonic saline solution only mobilize more mucus, or can its inhalation also have negative effects, i.e. promote mucus production? There are two conflicting assessments of this in this forum: "After all, with inhalation, one sometimes produces mucus that was not there before" (Prof. Dr. Joachim Bargon on the effect of hypertonic saline solution) vs. "Hypertonic saline solution helps mobilize existing mucus, i.e. makes it more liquid and thus easier removable. It does not produce new mucus." (PD Dr. Manfred Ballmann) Which of the two is right? Even in the CF clinic people sometimes say the one and sometimes the other. Kind regards

- Hello, I am 46 years old, have CF and was thinking about giving blood or plasma. I wonder if this is actually good and whether this blood can be used for other people without hesitation? If so, wich is better for me: giving plasma or blood? Many thanks, you are a great team!

- Could you give me some information about these 2 mutations, G551D associated with Q1476X : which class do they belong to, which respiratory or digestive problems can they cause, severity of the disease, even knowing that the disease is not similar between subjects.
