- Fridge and P aeruginosa
- Hello, I am considering buying an "American fridge" with cold water and ice. Is there a greater risk of infection with P aeruginosa than in a conventional fridge if my child is using cold water and ice ?

- delta F508 and R1070W
- My boy 3yo has been diagnosed with CF heterosigotus of delta F508 (7T-9T polimorfism) and R1070W (in exon 17b). This mutation R1070W alters an arginine into a tryptophane on amino acid position 1070 of the resulting protein (p.Arg1070Trp). He never had pulmonary infections and is pancreatic sufficient (faecal elastase is normal). He is 100 cm and 15,5 kg. He has been diagnosed as result of several severe dehydration through perspiration, at the age of 7-11 monts. The sweat test had three different values(but was 68 after several days of NaCl perfusions, then 59 done 3 weeks after the perfusion was stopped, and 49 - few months later). He now receives Humana Electrolytes with every glass of water and daily aerosols 4 ml of 3,5 concentration of NaCl. He has normal abdominal echography. We have investigated, and at the echography and surgeon control (hand touch), it seems like he might have deferent vases. What would be the prognosis in his case? How can I realize his lungs are affected over time? Thank you.

- Becoming a father with Cystic Fibrosis
- Dear expert team, My boyfriend has cystic fibrosis. F508 homozygous. We would love to have a baby. A gene test showed that I am not a carrier. My boyfriend has had his semen tested by a urologist twice, and both times it was very little and no sperms were detectable. My question: can I stop taking the pill and is it not possible in a natural way, so to speak, to become pregnant, or is still possible that a pregnancy happens nevertheless in this way? Sometimes we still hope. Many thanks in advance and kind regards.

- Life span of PSA
- Hello, my question relates to the life span of CF problem germs (particularly PSA) outside the human body. E.g., how many hours should pass between treatments of CF patients who have been tested positive and those who are negative in a physiotherapy practice or at the dentist’s who treats several CF individuals? I know that the germ disappears quickly on dry surfaces and remains in the air for a few hours, but what about sinks, shower, and toilette? Is regular rinsing sufficient if (at the dentist’s) sputum has been spit into the sink?

- oesophageal pain (2)
- Hello, I would like to thank you at first for your answer to my question “Acute oesophageal pain”. Following this pain, endoscopy was recently performed for my 14-year old CF daughter by the Professor of CRCM. This endoscopy has diagnosed an opened cardia, an oesophageal reflux, responsible for these very sudden and severe pains. The therapy has been modified: Omperazole changed for domperidone + + esoméprazole, sodium alginate (Gaviscon). Despite this new treatment, the pain is still present. And over all, despite this "inconfort” due to gastroesophageal reflux, our concern is the impact on the lungs: our child has recently developped a pulmonary infection because of the reflux. With these new elements, I allow myself to ask you again: the phenomenon of oesophageal reflux in a context of cystic fibrosis may increase the degradation of the patient's lungs? in order to preserve the lungs, is it suitable to consider now surgery to correct this problem of reflux? Is it frequent with this disease? Are there any significant adverse effects ? Thanks in advance for any answers you can give me. Sincerely.

- IVF and Cystic Fibrosis
- Dear expert team, I have had cystic fibrosis and diabetes for 29 years, and also chronic staphylococcus colonization (no MRSA). Since my husband and I cannot have children, we chose the path of artificial insemination (in vitro fertilizatin, IVF). Before the hormone treatment I had inpatient i.v. therapy in order to stabilize the lungs. During the hormone treatment as well as after implanting the eggs, my health worsened significantly (fever, infections) so that I needed antibiotics. My condition improved only after I had lost the embryos again. At the second attempt, the same thing happened again. Are you aware of a connection between IVF (specifically of hormone treatment before IVF) and deteriorating health in the context of CF? Many thanks and kind regards.
