- Hello, since the end of November I am taking oxygen at night (1.5-2l) and have several questions concerning this topic. 1. Which kind of water should I use? Distilled water or is demineralized water also sufficient? I heard also about tap water with salt and about that I do not need a humidification at all with an amount of 1.5-2 l. 2. How often do I have to change the water in the tank? 3. How do I clean the tank and how often? 4. How often do I have to change the tube? 5. How often do I have to change the tank? 6. Do I get the water reimbursed by the health insurance? Questions over questions, probably you could help me. Many thanks in advance.

- Maintenance of e-flow
- We were advised to use the product “ummonium” to disinfect the nebulizer (reservoir + mesh). On the other hand we do not hear that this product is not being recommended for use in several CF reference centers. Why not? Has this product been tested for efficacy? Many people report problems with maintenance of e-flow reservoir and mesh. We use ummonium since a long time and never had problems. On the contrary our reservoir and mesh last one full year.

- Good evening! I have a baby boy six months old. When he was 3 days old he was operated for ileus due to meconium. The surgery went quiet well and immediately after the baby was tested for cf and two mutations were found (c.621+1G>T/p.G85E). Up to now he is very well and suffers only from pancreatic insufficiency. Are these mutations connected only with pancreatic insufficiency, or with something else as well? Is it severe?

- How would you be able to tell whether a CF that exclusively affects the lungs actually also involves the pancreas? Would a child's lack of appetite and/or smelly stool be a hint?

- Insecurity
- Dear ladies and gentlemen, I worry about my 18-months-old son. Until his 6th month I brest-feded him and he gained weight well. Afterwards he gained few weight and sometimes he lost even weight. However, he does hardly eat anything. No potatoes, no noodles, no rice, no fruits and vegetables, no sausages and no meat. Only semolina porridge and buns without butter and filling. Furthermore he has freuqently bronchitis and last year in autumn I found him hardly breathing in bed and he was very grey. Several times he has been in hospital and on the intensive care unit. Since this springtime he inhales in the morning and evening a combination of fluticasone and salmeterol and in case of hard breathing salbutamol. Since the summer he is now relatively free of complaints. Execpt for the low weight of 8000g and often cough and rhinitis, his development is only slightly delayed compared to his twin sister. Last week the pneumologist sent us for a sweat test. The result was 66. In january it should be repeated. Now my questions: Can the test be wrong? What do we have to expect if my son suffers from CF? Could he go to a day care center as planned at the beginning of february? Should I also have his twin sister be tested? Yours sincerely,

- Pseudomonas stutzeri in the lung - request
- Only a short comment to the article [Pseudomonas stutzeri in the lung from the 5.12.2010]. Dear expert team, I do not know if I have skipped something. But here it seems to involve apparently not yet a known CF but "only" cough with the finding of Pseudomonas. Or do I got something wrong? Would it then not be important to look for CF and to initiate the respective diganostics? Many thanks,
