Gestational diabetes
Hello, I am 29 years old and I am a young CF mother of a little girl aged 1 month. I was discovered gestational diabetes at 28 weeks, and now one month after delivery my blood sugars are still very disturbed. Gestational diabetes usually goes away quickly in mothers after delivery. Is it normal in my case that my blood sugars are still very disturbed? One month after delivery is it too early to get everything set? Or does it mean I'm definitely diabetic, whereas nothing had been detected so far? Thank you very much for your attention to my e-mail.

Diabetes
Hello, I would like to know what is the treatment for CF diabetes with high values of glucose. I have heard several opinions. Insuline or oral treatment? I have been told that oral treatments are not the best for cystic fibrosis related diabetes. What do you think? Thank you.

Vaccination against Pseudomonas Aeruginosa
Ladies and Gentlemen, I feel sorry that the vaccine Aerugen (Berna) has not been marketed yet, although the vaccination was successful in CF patients. Why it is not possible that grown-up CF patients decide for or against vaccination? Is this vaccine still available? How is the development of other potent vaccines in the near future? MRSA?
Coagulase-negative staphylococci (methilcill.resist) were detected in the sputum of my 6 year old daughter (I transcribed this – I heard it for the first time!). Now, I read in your forum that these pathogens give cause for concern. In addition to Zithromax®/acithromycine (she takes 250ml every second day) my girl has to take the antibiotic Bactrim® (Trimethoprim and Sulfamethoxazole or short: TMP-SMX) now for eight days (2 x 6ml). Does this settle the matter or do we have to expect further complications? Actually she is doing fine, she goes to school, makes a healthy impression… Is it MRSA!?!

Proof of genetic deficiency in parents
Hello, My son is suspected to have CF and is currently being tested accordingly. Since my partner and I are separated, unfortunately I do not have any more detailed information on actual test results from the mother, as she has cut ties with me. I would like to ask anyway whether it is possible for one parent as well to get tested for the genetic deficiency. Is this done through a sweat test as well, or does that only work when one actually has CF? Thanks in advance.

Risk of infection when participating in social life
How high is the risk of infection for CF patients in different social activities, e.g. cinema, concerts, public transport? Should one generally advise all those who are affected to avoid large gatherings? How high is the risk compared to patients with other diseases (HIV, immunosuppressive therapy after organ transplant) really? Which criteria would you consider relevant for the counseling of affected patients and/or their parents?

Risk of infection with CF germs in asthma

House building with clay

Ν1303 mutation
I am a carrier of the N1303 mutation and my wife the S912X, which is considered an extremely rare mutation. My wife is at her 6th month of pregnancy, and we have been told that the fetus carries both the CF genes and has CF. We have searched and are fully aware of the situation. Can anybody tell us about these two specific genes, or for their combination in regard to the prognosed severity of the disease and what will the symptoms be? We have only a few days ahead of us before we decide to continue or terminate the pregnancy and the ordeal lies heavy upon us. cannot anybody answer us about the severity of the disease for these two specific genes?

Building a house
Dear ladies and gentlemen, we have a 3-year-old son with CF. We are planning to start building a house in the course of the next year. There is the possibility, to equip the house with a controlled living-room ventilation with regaining of heat. Hereby, used air is permanently sucked out of the appartment and its heat is transmitted to the fresh air via a heat exchanger, which is passed into the the rooms then. By this the needed exchange of air is provided without manuel opening of the windows and the performance of mould is inhibited. I see this to be a great advantage, I am not sure however, if probably because of the occurance of humidity in the pipe system the whole can turn into a disadvantage. Can you tell me your opinion about this?
