Moving out
Hello, we have a question. Our son is 31 years old, of excellent health and has now decided to buy an apartment. We are a bit concerned now whether he will continue to be as healthy when living alone and whether he will be able to work long-term. We know that this is a difficult issue. Many thanks for your support.

Spontaneous mutations
Hello, As I said before, our daughter has been diagnosed with atypical cystic fibrosis (CF). Following this diagnosis, we did a gene test and it turned out that only one of us is a gene carrier. My questions: how frequently do spontaneous mutations occur? The human genetics laboratory would now like to test my daughter’s blood as well. Many thanks. Kind regards C.M.

Tatooing with MRSA
Hello, I would like to get another tattoo. I have MRSA (sputum result, no other swabs have been done), and there is no eradication planned. I have already talked to my doctor about this plan. She was not very thrilled about it but said that the risk of infection was not higher than usual for me with this kind of procedure. This eliminated my doubts. My question is geared in another direction – in a tattooing forum, I brought up the issue of hygiene in connection with MRSA. Many people were appalled and rejected it with the ludicrous reasoning to not even allow me in their studio. Is there really a danger for the tattooer or the customer to get infected or colonized by me? In my opinion, this can practically be ruled out if the procedure is done in a properly sterile manner and with good hygienic practice. What do you think? If the answer is yes, can I just leave my colonization unmentioned with a clear conscience in order to avoid panicked reactions? Kind regards.

Face mask safety
Dear expert team, How far-extensive is the protection of a face mask (3-layer, non-sterile, bacteria filtration performance higher than 98%)? I am particularly thinking of fungus spores (e.g. major amounts of dead wood or similar that have to be moved). Kind regards Susanne (CF/Tx)

Artificial pancreas
I just read in [an online news magazine] that the development of an artificial pancreas is making progress. Will this artificial gland possibly be an option for CF patients in the future? And how do I have to imagine this – can this only affect the insulin/glucagons balance and hence treat diabetes? Or can it even control the lipase, amylase, and protease release, and hence enable somewhat of a normal digestive process?
