- Coffee machine
- Dear expert team, how is it with coffee machines, that have a water tank, e.g. Senseo, Dolce Gusto...? Is the coffee in spite of heating contaminated with bacteria, e.g. Pseudomonas or is it drinkable without problems for patients with CF? We have such a machine in the company and sometimes the water stays for several hours and I have worries if I could get infected with it. Many greetings

- Pain in the region of the heart
- Dear expert team, for one month now, I have very strong, cramping pain in the region of the heart, so that I am not able to breathe really deeply anymore. A check at the cardiologist did not show any conspicuities. The CF-center is of the opinion that it has to come from the lung. What can I do against it, in order to get rid of the pain? - Holiday in Egypt
- Dear expert team, as I am thinking of going on holiday in Egypt as a CF patient, the following questions: 1. Which areas in Egypt do you recommend? 2. Which precautions are necessary before the holiday (vaccinations etc.?) 3. Which CF centers are there in Egypt? 4. Are in Egypt in case of need drugs available via pharmacies without problems? 5. Which kind of accomodation, also from the hygiene point of view, do you recommend (hotel? appartment? etc). I will be happy to hear from you

- Staphylococci
- Dear expert team, my son (1 year, CF) has once more Staphylococci in the throat swab and has been treated with antibiotics for this several times. My question is, where this germ can be found, as we do really have a look at the hygiene, I ask myself where he gets the germ all the time? Or can it be that some humans are just more susceptible for it than others? Many greetings,

- Antibiotics after throat swab
- Hello, I have posed lately a similar question. You have written to me that some centers treat according to the result of the swab and e.g. give antibiotics even if there are no signs of infection but a Staphylocuccus. Our daughter (1 year) still had a Staphylococcus in the swab, is however healthy at the moment, is there an antibiotic treatment necessary, it has been even said that if it is not going to be better, it should be administered i.v.? Without symptoms? She is putting at the moment everything in the mouth, is then a colonization with Staph not "normal"?

- Corrector- and Potentiator-drugs and male fertility
- Dear expert team, do correctors and potentiators such as VX 809 and VX 770 influence presumably the male fertility in case of delta F508 being positive? I do not expect a binding answer - assumably there will be no tests available at the moment - only if these new drugs could have theoretically an effect in this respect. - Prophylaxis of Pseudomonas
- Our grand-daughter is nearly one year old. Which general precautions have to be taken esp. in the household in which time-interval in order to avoid a colonization with Pseudmonas? And as a special question: is Pseudomonas also in the condensating water of the tea bottles, which is collected in the sucker, if yes, in what time-interval? Which care do the spraying attachments on the taps need?

- Risk of Pseudomonas in natural swimming pools
- Hello, It is surely not exactly without danger for a CF person to visit one of the natural swimming pools that are becoming more and more modern recently. Is there also a risk staying in the sunbathing area next to such a natural pool? And is it exaggerated to ask my partner to use a nasal douche each time after having visited a natural swimming pool for fear of colonisation? Best regards

- CT for follow-up?
- Our doctor at the outpatient clinic recommended doing an annual CT for CF follow-up with our one-year-old daughter. Is that exaggerated? What about benefits and significance compared to radiation exposure? Is radiation exposure much higher than with X-ray? Thanks in advance.

- Antibiotics how early?
- Unfortunately, our CF outpatient clinic and our paediatrician do not always share the same opinion. The paediatrician suggests not giving antibiotics too early because otherwise one has to reckon with resistances in the following years. Apparently he performs controls at close intervals and then administers antibiotics if it is indeed necessary. The other day, we had a staph aureus in the throat swab with a mild bronchitis which he did not treat with antibiotics directly but only when it did not improve. Our outpatient clinic recommends rather being more aggressive with antibiotics, since experience has shown that resistances are not the biggest problem initially but, if at all, only become one at a later age and that life expectancy and quality of life increase with a speedy antibiosis. Also, the immune system will not get weaker from prompt treatment with antibiotics – I thought it might get lazy from always giving antibiotics directly, when the body does not have to do much.
