Course of borderline-CF
Dear expert team, for just another time I have a question for you: My daughter, nearly 5, mutations R116X/R1048G did up to now have only slight problems with her CF. This winter she has had infections more often, which had to be treated with altogether 6 antibiotic therapies. At the half-year check it has been said to us, that we have now to start with the physiotherapy in the end and she has to undergo an antibiotic therapy for 2 months. Up to now "only" her lung is involved. Now the question comes to me if I have to fear that sometime her pancreas could also be involved!?! It has however been said to us, that our daughter is a so-called borderline case. Now it seems not to be like that anymore. I am a bit insecured, how to cope with the new situation. Does it mean that her state of health can worsen the same as in all other patients with CF? Many thanks for your answer.

Reduction of the hearing as a consequence of an antibiotic therapy
My son is 4 years old and has CF (diagnosed after birth with meconium ileus). I had already the impression from the beginning, that he does not hear properly, which has been denied by the doctors mostly. Now, with increasing age it strikes even more to me again. At an online platform I heard from older CF patients, which do alike and who bring it in connection with their intake of antibiotics. My son has had in the first year some i.v. with diverse antbiotics, afterwards however almost exclusivley inhalation with Tobramycin, for a short period of time he takes in additon Azithromycin. At the latter, hardness of hearing is listed as a rare side-effect, at Tobramycin, as far as I do remember, at least effects on the ear canal (tinnitus, impairment of the balance). Are there any studies or number of cases, which do confirm an accumulation of problems with the hearing in CF patients, caused by antibiotics? If yes, are there any experiences to minimize these via changing of therapy respectively to avoid these (composition, dosage, etc.)? Is the damage irreversible or does the condition normalize itself after termination of the antibiotic therapy? In other words: Can it be that the reduction of the hearing has been caused by the i.v. courses in the first year of life and is permanent? Many thanks for your help

she does not have any chance
Our little girl is in hospital and and can not breathe without an oxygen mask and can not be treated . Every night she has crisis and she does not have air. Her mother is very upset. What can be done in these circumstances to be easier daughter? May be something to do? treatment no longer work. How can we help ?

Prophylactic antibiotic therapy
In my son (22 months) the illness of CF is known for nearly one year. Up to now, he has not been especially susceptable for infections. He has had 3 viral infections in the last winter (rhinitis, light obstructive bronchitis, one time with short period of fever). The pediatrician and the CF-clinic agreed, that this had been "only" viral infections without involvement of bacteria. The CF-clinic however tries to persuade me that an antibiotic therapy is prophylactically necessary with a bronchitis even at an obvious viral infection, in order to avoid damage to the lung in any case. In general, I am very cautious with antibiotics, as I have seen in myself but also in familiar children, how antibiotics can destroy the flora of the gut and make the child even more susceptible for the next infection. How are the opinions concerning prophylactic antibiotic therapy? Many thanks in andvance

Heterozygous state
Dear ladies and gentlemen, I 34 (female) as well as my daughter 7 suffer from CF. My question, in my son (14), CF has been exculded 2 times but why is it written in a doctor's letter (gastroenterologist) "We would recommend additionally a renewed genetic counselling to exclude a compound-heterozygous CF. At the moment there is a heterozygous state, however in the last time some new mutations became known." This heterozygous mutation has been diagnosed in my son (14) in the year 2003. My CF itself has been diagnosed per instance at a human genetic expert when I was 29 years old. Is there a special hospital for human genetics except Gießen and Hannover, that conduct ongoing blood test? Yours sincerely and many thanks,

Magic wand
Dear ladies and gentlemen, at a well-known and established mail order company I have seen a device, that is supposed to eradicate with allegedly 99,9% with UV-C light bacteria and germs from all surfaces. Allegedly with a high rate of success for Pseudmonas and MRSA. Could that be? That would be a great idea for e.g. keyboards and handys, especially for people working in hospital.... Research results
Dear expert team, I have read on an internet side about CF, that there is some research going on with an ingredient of curry, which is thought to have a positive effect when having del508 mutation. As my son (8 months) has this mutation, I am now interested how hopeful this report is respectively how this ingredient leads to an improvement of the CF disease?

Hyperechogenic fetal bowel
Good evening. I am 22 weeks pregnant and during the routine ultrasonograph the doctor diagnosed hyperechogenic fetal bowel. Without having any positive family history I have been checked at Laiko Hospital, Athens for the 75% of possible cystic fibrosis mutations and the results were negative. How much does the risk for cystic fibrosis increase due to this positive finding after the ultrasonograph? Would you recommend amniocentesis? Thanks in advance!
