- Stenotrophomonas
- Dear Expert Team, My problem germs are mainly Staphylococcus, Haemophilus, sporadically Aspergillus, and currently also Stenotrophomonas. Over the past three weeks I have been feeling very sick and have had a lot of sputum and dry cough particularly at night, which has resulted in exhaustion and a high need for sleep. My doctors are now focusing on the Stenotrophomonas because they assume it to be the reason for my current ailment. However, since the Stenotrophomonas is always subliminally present everywhere, could it not also be the other bacteria? What I mean is that after the last antibiogram, only two antibiotics reacted positive to Stenotrophomonas. I tried Ciprofloxacine, which did not work, and Cefuroxime has not had a significant effect after the third day, either. Whenever Stenotrophomonas has not been detected, I have been prescribed Doxycycline and it has helped me very well. Also, I was sometimes able to convince my doctors to prescribe Doxycycline when it was presumed resistant to the existing germs [translator’s comment: patient probably meant that the germs were presumed resistant to the antibiotic]. If you are dealing with patients who are already in their mid-40s, should you as a physician not trust the patients’ sense of what helps and what does not help, and at least try it? After all, an antibiogram only provides support with the choice of antibiotic but does not ensure success in its application. As far as I know, Stenotrophomonas has not been researched enough to know what damage it does or does not cause. I was even advised to try an i.v. therapy, but with that, too, it is debatable whether it makes sense with this particular germ. I am almost ready to think about whether I will take this step, but I am also afraid of hospital germs. Many thanks.

- Pseudomonas: Is there any danger in the lawn?
- Our son, 8, wants to play football/soccer in a club. He is active in sports, a member of a gymnastics club and karate. Our question: Is it dangerous to play outside when it is raining and the lawn is wet or when the lawn ist still wet because it rained the day before and the drops fall on him? Thank you very much for answering this question.

- Pseudomonas
- Hi, I am 25 years old and have very severe asthma which is but difficult to be hold at bay with all drugs available (Symbicort, Singulair, Decortin 7,5mg, Sultanol forte for Pari boy...) I permanently have infections and I had three bouts of pneumonia within a bit more of one year. Now an examination of the sputum showed that I have Pseudomonas within my bronchus. Kann this occur whith asthma also? How does such a colonisation with Pseudomonas happen? Many tests are being done at the moment. Is it possible that a person has asthma and cystic fibrosis at the same time? But in my age (I always had problems with my lung, but always asthma)? Is it possible that pseudomonas causes the frequent bouts of pneumonia? Also my lung function keeps being restricted. Greetings,

- Indication of ursodeoxycholic acid
- Dear team, Is ursodeoxycholic acid prescribed in CF even if the liver value SGGT is always very good (9), while other liver values are slightly higher than usual since months? SGOT 41 (-35 norm), SGPT 48 (-45 norm), ALKP 140 (53 – 128 norm according to laboratory). Apart from that my liver is without pathological findings and disturbances. Many thanks in advance S. Gayer

- Headache after cortisone therapy
- Dear Expert Team, for some time now, I have been noticing that, after cortisone therapy, I get a headache that lasts for weeks. It usually goes away after about for weeks, but it is unbearable without pain killers. The initial dosage is usually 20 mg and the headache slowly starts at 10 mg and becomes really intense after the therapy. Could it perhaps be potassium deficiency? Also, I am always very shaky along with the headache. Therefore, last time a head CT was performed, but nothing was found. I hope you can help me or can give me some advice! Kind regards, a 34-year-old CF patient
