Does infertility of CF men change?
Dear expert team, CF men are in 98% of cases infertile, this is what I read. What is the reason for this? Can the infertility change? I myself got tested 10 years ago at a specialist for urology with the result, that I was infertile. As my girl-friend (non CF) does not use a contraceptive coil anymore: do I have to do a testing at the urologist again? We are both in the mid 30ties and do not want a child. Hello, We are from Bulgaria and there are no CF centers. I would like to ask a question about the intake of combination drug preparations, for example AQADEKs. As in the country different things are recommended. Shall I accept?

My daughter has an atypical form of CF with the mutations delta F508 / 2789+5G>A. Do you have any experience with the mutation? What does atypical mean?

FEV1 value

Hello dear expert team, recently, the mutations R1162X and Q1035X have been detected in my genetic material. Could you please answer the following questions about this combination: - Is there a prognosis concerning the course of the illness? - How is the frequency of both mutations respectively of this combination? - Is there anything in sight for these mutations concerning research and new therapeutic options? Addendum to answer „inhalation with 3% NaCl solution“
Dear Dr. Posselt, many thanks for your inquiry and answer. With mixtures I meant mixtures between 0.9% and 3% NaCl and (!) 6 drops Berodualin®. After the diagnosis has been made we were told in the CF center that the 6 drops Berodualin® should be added directly into the 0.9% NaCl (for inhalation with Pari Boy®); do I understand you right, that one should never use Berodualin® with NaCl (but how to use it then…??)? Even at the point of changing to 3% NaCl we were told, that one could mix it with the 6 drops Berodualin®…I will again discuss this with the CF center, many thanks for your information. Best regards,

Grommets (tympanic tubes) in case of CF
Hello Dr. Mainz, 3 months ago, grommets have been placed in both ears of our son, as he had an impairment of hearing. As one of those grommets got out of place now, another one should be placed in 2 weeks. We read your answer that tympanic tubes are not favorable in case of CF. What should we do now? Malnutrition and cystic fibrosis
I am a 45 year-old adult with cystic fibrosis since birth. My weight has always fluctuated between 39 and 42 kg since my teens. Since 1993 I am diabetic and treated with insulin; I have been losing weight for 2 years. With bags of Clinomel® [parenteral feeding soultion] for 1 year, I have gained weight (39 kgs) but I have been offered gastrostomy, which should be more efficient, because I lose weight again. What is gastrostomy? Thank you in advance for your time.

Hypertonic saline solution
Why is hypertonic saline soultion not used prophylactically from the youngest age on, for degradation of the mucus? Apparently, it is effective for the airways of infants.
