- Fluimucil® (acetylcystein) and / or other mucolytic drugs
- Hello, For children suffering from CF, are Fluimucil® (acetylcystein) or other mucolytic drugs in form of tablets or sirup sensible as long term therapy? Can they liquefy the CF mucus or are they not effective? Many thanks!

- Inhalation with salbutamol
- Hello, I have 2 questions on this topic... 1. How becomes the inhalation with salbutamol the most effecitve? To mix the drops with NaCl/Mucoclear® (hypertonic saline) and inhale with Pariboy or Eflow or to inhale salbutamol with the Vortex® chamber (about 20 minutes) before the inhalation of the NaCl/Mucoclear®? 2. Should salbutamol be inhaled before every inhalation with Pulmozyme®, can Pulmozyme® be then more effective, as it can go deeper in the airways? Many thanks

- Chronical carrier for Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Hello, My 11-year-old daughter is affected by CF. After a culture of a sputum control, 2 different strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P.a.) were found (P.a. has been found in an irregular way since she is 18 months old). The doctor informed me that he didn't want her to have an intravenous antibiotic cure IV and that he would give her a per os medication only if she has clinical signs (fever, cough) and to pursue the inhalation with colistin twice a day. She evokes problems of resistance to antibiotics knowingly that her last intravenous antibiotic cure goes back up to 2 years and that her last ciprofloxacine treatment goes back up to 1 year. I do not question the competence of her doctor but I'm afraid of the risk of irreversible lung damages? Thank you for the explanations that you can bring me because I am very worried and we want to go on holiday in 10 days to Italy: moment for which she waits for a long time.

- VX-809 research
- Hello, in the research news dated 01.01.2013 (here the link to a German website: http://muko.info/forschung/news-detail-und-archiv/detailansicht/article/zulassungsprogramm-fuer-korrektur-des-f508del-soll-2013-starten/17.html ). it has been said, that the market authorization for "VX-809" should start even in the year 2013, unfortunately, until today no furhter news appeared on this. My question is, how advanced is the study at the moment and when can one expect further information? Best regards, H.

- Blood in the sputum
- Hello dear expert team, my son is 8-years-old and suffers from CF, he has blood in the sputum since Thursday. On Thursday he has been discharged from hospital after 14 days of i.v. therapy, he had a pneumonia. It happens up to 8 times and sometimes it is streaked with blood and sometimes there are real mucus plugs of blood. What can this be?

- CF and cortisone
- Dear expert team, as a CF patient with severe allergic asthma (trees, grasses, fungus spores) I face the problem to be forced to reduce the cortinsone (prednisone 10 mg daily / symbicort 200® (budesonide and formoterol) 3puffs 3 times daily) that I take for 10 years, due to recurrent infections. The infections are due to the chronic colonization with Pseudomonas and recently, I started to inhale with Cayston® (aztreonam, one year on/off) now for 2 months alternating with colistin and I take futhermore all drugs belonging to the standard therapy against Pseudomonoas. In Switzerland, there are only studies about the unfavourable effect of topic steroids. Do you have further studies on the effect of oral cortisone and is it rather more advisable to reduce at first the oral or the inhalative cortisone (which cortisone boosts more the infections, the oral or the inhalative)? Many thanks for your help and best regards from Switzerland, S.

- Can CF also occur without pulmonary symptoms?
- Dear Sir/Madam, My son (3 years and 3 months) is currently being tested for CF. He had a sweat test, but unfortunately the test failed because he didn’t produce enough sweat. However, I do not think my son has CF because he has no pulmonary symptoms. He has upper respiratory infections (with mucus, etc.) but no lung problems. Can it be CF? In other words, are there also CF cases without pulmonary symptoms? Thank you, Mother

- MRSA
- Is it true that an MRSA encapsulation would most likely be located in the weakest part of one's body? My husband had a back injury back in 2007. In 2009 he got MRSA, probably from a cut on the leg. The leg got infected and soon after he developed lots of inflammation and fever and pain in the back. He was admitted to the hospital and they discovered MRSA in his blood cultures. Nothing seemed to work. Antibiotics including Vancomycin would not kill the bacteria. The neurologist finally found the encapsulation in the back where his 2007 back injury was. They performed emergency surgery to remove the encapsulated MRSA and then the antibiotics started to work. He recovered but is still undergoing surgeries to fix the back injury. I always asked why did the MRSA encapsulate at the back and one doctor told me it was because it found the weakest part of his body. Is that true? Thanks

- MRSA protection measures as care staff
- Hello, I work at a care home and have also contact to MRSA infected patients. The hygienic standards for dealing with MRSA are admittedly respected by me, however in spite of this I like to do the best I can, in order to avoid a transmission to me and in the end to my child suffering from CF. Now my thoughts: Does it make sense, if I clean myself after work (I work only 5-6 days a month) e.g. with Prontoderm® foam, instead of normal shampoo? Do you know anything else in order to decrease the risk of a colonization? I would simply like to do everything that is possible, at the same time I do not want to drive myself crasy, as I depend on the work and love to be a nurse. Many thanks, Best regards,
