genetic tests

Question
Where can be done genetic tests for both, in order to find if we are genetically compatible? we want to have a child and I had a miscarriage (loose a pregnancy in 6 weeks), without any reason.
Answer
Hello,
This site is aimed at those who have questions about cystic fibrosis - an autosomal recessive genetic disorder, meaning that the two genitors (the mother and the father) has to have a mutation of cystic fibrosis gene. Being a carrier(having one mutation) is not definitely a cause for misscariage. For a patient with cystic fibrosis there are some infertility problems, consisting in the imposibility to get a pregnancy, not a miscarriage. The clinical picture of the disease include repeated respiratory infections, steatorrhea, nutritional deficiency and some forms may be associated with infertility. Cystic fibrosis is the most common monogenic disease in the population of Caucasian origin, about one of 25 could be carrier for a CF mutation. Genetic tests for depistation of cystic fibrosis (different mutations) can be done in specialized laboratories. In Timisoara, the tests are in the National Center for Cystic fibrosis (CF) in collaboration with the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Medicine. Given your problems, the fairest thing is to ask your gynecologist specialised in infertility.
If you have to do tests for cystic fibrosis, please contact us again
