cystic fibrosis and china painting

Question
I am a 50 year’s old woman who had a late diagnosis of cystic fibrosis. I realize china painting for pleasure. I use as paint thinner lavender oil, orange oil… without any protection and with throat irritation. So I try to use a FPR P1 filtering half mask (called duck mask) which give me a suffocate impression. What is the degree of toxicity requiring what protection?
Answer
Dear questioner

On my knowledge, there is nothing in the literature on painting and cystic fibrosis. By analogy with recommendation given to the patients with respiratory failure, all irritating product for respiratory tract should be excluded.
Indeed, the FPR P1 filtering half mask (called duck mask) is difficult to tolerate. I advise you to use a surgical mask called very high filtration face mask which is easier to support. If you are always irritated despite this protection, I think it probably should be reasonable to stop this exposition.
I advise you to speak with your doctor about this problem in order to adjust advices to your respiratory function.

Sincerely yours

Dr Isabelle Danner-Boucher
