Pseudomonas Pseudoalcaligenes

Question
Hello,
in the throat swab of my daughter (2.5 years old) now Pseudomonas Pseudoalcaligenes has been found for the first time. The center cannot classify this Pseudomonas. Perhaps you have an idea. Would you treat this germ directly with and antibiotic drug?
Many thanks and best regards,
Answer
Hello,
here it deals with a germ from the Pseudomonas group, however this is not the feared Pseudmonas aeruginosa. We would here not see an indication for an antibiotic therapy. However, one has to be alert nevertheless. On the one hand, if one can cultivate only a few germs relatively poorly, mistakes are also possible. What should normally not happen, can however take place seldomly in unexperienced laboratories, is the wrong classification of the grown germ. Not always the germs are determined with a genetic fingerprint, so that this can happen principally. One encounters this, in controlling the throat swabs now more frequently for a while (e.g. monthly). Then it will show, if this germ was there in a single case or if there is probably after all a Pseudmonas aeruginosa. On the other hand one has also to ask oneself, if the conditions in the airways simply are like this, that the Pseudmonas has an ideal environment. Here one can oppose still something with the trial of intensification of the physiotherapy.

Yours sincerely,
Olaf Sommerburg
