Diabetes & CF & dementia

Question
If I (CF) have a diabetes, which is only hardly to handle due to the underlying disease, and I have in addition the worry to suffer from a diabetes-related neurodegeneration- to whom I do address for diagnosis and adjustment? Neurologist? Specialist for biochemistry? Diabetologist?
Answer
Hello,
in the first line your CF center is responsible, which will send you to the respective specialist, who should in general know also something about CF. By now there are some diabetologists, who work well together with the CF centers and who adjust also CF patients- which works out well in general if not infections or a necessary cortisone therapy complicate the adjustment. The illness of CF itself should not be an obstacle to adjust a diabetes well and most patients get it right. Because of neurologic problems, which occurred in your case, you should visit a neurologist, who can make a diagnosis and judge, if it has something to do at all with the diabetes or if other causes are underlying.
Yours sincerely,
