Jules the doll
- Question
- Dearest,
At our kindergarden, when a birthday or another important event takes place, the children can take ‘the class doll Jules’ to their house. Can a Pseudomonas bacteria survive on this doll? If yes, what could the teacher do to avoid this? Or should our child not bring this doll to our house?
- Answer
- Dearest,
Thank you for this practical question. As you know, lung infection in patients with CF is caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas. Most CF patients will acquire these bacteria from the environment. This is especially the case for Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Pseudomonas is a normal environmental bacteria that thrives well in humid spaces. Bacteria such as Pseudomonas will not survive on a ragdoll. Your child can thus take the doll to his house, the doll poses no risk of infection to your child.
