Spray or inhalation
- Question
- Hello,
since I (female, 43 years old) have CF allergic asthma, I am having a hard time opening and loosening the secretion in the mornings. I take three puffs or Symbicort® (budesonide and formoterol) before inhaling Pulmozyme® (DNAse). Would it be better to inhale Ventolin® (salbutamol) first (ca. 6 drops) and then Symbicort® only after 1-2 hours?
Thank you for your answer. - Answer
- Hello,
the effect of the inhalation drugs is best when the bronchia are relaxed/widened. You can achieve this by first doing inhalation to relax the respiratory tracts, e.g. with salbutamol, since otherwise the active agents are not able to spread in the lungs well enough. This is even more the case if a lot of secretion has gathered up by morning. I recommend inhaling salbutamol first, ideally as humid inhalation, although spray would work too; then waiting (15 min); then inhaling Pulmozyme® and secretion drainage; then inhaling Symbicort®. I think this way you will start off the day well.
All best,
