Mucoclear® (7% hypertonic saline) and physiotherapy

Question: Is it possible to perform physiotherapy immediately after a nebulization of Mucoclear® (7% hypertonic saline) or do we have to wait a longer time for an optimal effect of this Mucoclear ?
Answer: Hello and thanks for your question. The 7% hypertonic saline (Mucoclear®) acts by improving the mucus viscosity due to a transfer of water from the cells to the bronchial secretions. Some works show that this positive effect is present few minutes after nebulization of 7% hypertonic saline and reaches a maximum effect after 45 to 60 minutes. From these data, physiotherapy needs to be performed quickly after the 7% hypertonic saline nebulization.
