Voice hoarseness

Question
My child is 3 years old and suffers from CF. For a long time there is a hoarseness in his voice. Does it have anything to do with CF? I blame it on the Airway clearance therapy, or to the fact that he screams a lot. I would like your opinion.
Answer
Dear friend,
The hoarseness in the voice of a child with CF is usually due to the inhalation of pulmozyme and/or antibiotics. You do not mention in your question whether or not you use these drugs.
If your child does not use these drugs, he may need to have his vocal cords examined by an experienced ENT doctor.
In general I do not consider this to be a serious problem.
Yours friendly,
Dr. Stavros Doudounakis
