Vaccinations for CF children

Question
Each given vaccination contains also mercury, according to my knowledge. Which vaccinations are indispensable for CF children? Which should be avoided due to the burden with mercury?
Answer
Hello,
I think that in frame of this forum we will not be able to answer the questions concerning the sense and risks of vaccinations in a detailed manner. Furthermore, the experts of ECORN-CF are expectably belonging to the group of those who recommend vaccinations. In spite of this, we would like to try to face insecurities concerning vaccinations and there, where there is no reason for worries in our opinion, to formulate it clearly like this.
Mercury ligations are harmful and for this reason it is not recommended to take those in as a human being. A ligation of mercury, the thiomersal, used to be part of many vaccines.
However, actual vaccines are mostly free of thiomersal or still contain only very little thiomersal amounts, so that the intake of mercury is negligible. You probably know the statement of the last sentence, as it is written like this in all recommendations of the institues and authorities, who deal with this offcially. You can believe this or not, however it is a fact, that according to recent scientific knowlege there is no epidemiological data that prove sufficiently, that the former given higher amounts indeed led to neurological diseases in childen in a relevant manner. We are of the opinion that, based on this circumstance and according to the fact that mercury ligations have indeed been eliminated respectively reduced, today there is really no reason anymore to refuse a vaccination due to this problem.
The vaccination recommendations for CF patients have been established by the German permanent commission for vaccinations [STIKO], I would recommend to orientate to this. Furthermore, I would recommend in case of doubt that the pediatrician checks the respective vaccine and informs you if and how much thiomersal is still in the preparation. As appropriate one should choose another preparation if possible. Otherwise it seems to be like this that the benefit of a vaccination is today markedly higher than the hypopthetic risk from the rest of mercury ligations in this vaccines.
Yours sincerely.
