Pseudomonas

Question
Is Pseudomonas (lung) curable?
Answer
Dear questioner,
your question is very short and we can only speculate, that you suffer from CF and that the germ Pseudomonas aeruginosa has been found in your sputum.
You probably want to know, if the germ can be eradicated again from your lung. In case of this few information, we can only answer unprecisely and as follows: in case an early therapy with the respecting antibiotic drug can be performed, then the achievement of a germ-free state is not impossible.
Yours sincerely,
Yours Dr. med Christina Smaczny

Concrete values about the rate of successful eradication after the first detection of Pseudomonas in the airways can be found in the guidelines from Döring et al. in the Journal of Cystic Fibrosis 11 (2012) 461-479: “Treatment of lung infection in patients with cystic fibrosis: Current and future strategies”. The corresponding paragraph can be cited as follows: "The success rates to eradicate P. aeruginosa in different AET (antibioitic eradication therapy) studies ranges between 63% and 100% (mean 81.2%)."
