Chestmaster® (high frequency chest wall oscillation)

Question
Hello,
Can we give credibility to CHESTMASTER®?
Could it eventually replace physical therapy sessions?
Thank you in advance for your answer.
Answer
Hello,
Chestmaster® is a device that is intended to allow an independent bronchial drainage. Benefits announced by the manufacturer of the device are as follows:
- the application of high frequency oscillations on the rib cabe are sensible to allow better mobilization of bronchial mucus;
- the autonomy of the rechargeable battery (48 hours);
- the patient's autonomy: the device can be used without the intervention of a third party.
Though, weight (7 kg) and size of the model currently available limit its use to adults or older adolescents patients. By clicking on the following link you can access the video (in English) posted on the net by the manufacturer:

I have not found in the scientific literature any study comparing Chestmaster® and other airway clearance techniques (ACT). ACT are numerous. A working group appointed by the US CysticFibrosis Foundation (US CFF) took stock of these techniques in an article (in English) published in 2009 but still relevant. The authors conclude that no technique has proved its superiority over others and that the prescription must be individualized according to the preferences of the patient.
