Pneumothorax

Question
Hello,
How do I have to behave after a pneumothorax, thus which kind of exercise is suitable and what should I avoid?
Furthermore, I have my drainage been removed a few days ago and since then the scar pinches at each cough and it bubbles, is that normal, as I have also a skin emphysema at this location?
Answer
Dear questioner,
with your question, an answer via the internet is in no way sufficient, even if you turn to a serious portal like Ecorn with it. General answers will barely help you, please turn to your physician who treated the pneumothorax in order to get the right answers for you.
I will try to give you some information about pneumothorax, which will however for sure not replace the visit at the physician!
At first it is unclear to us, which was the reason for the pneumothorax? Is there an illness underlying? Or did it happen due to a medical intervention respecitvely an injury of the thorax? Or should we assume that you suffer from CF, as you turn to the CF expert team? Answers to these question are known by your physician and he can understand further questions better.
After a successfully treated pneumothorax (that means, the before collapsed lung has unfold completely again), it is recommended to save oneself (duration dependent on the picture of the illness) with avoidance of exercise and activities that increase the pressure in the thorax (e.g. lifting heavy loads, athletics sports, jumping, flight travel i.a.).
Lighter pain or pinching of the scar can be present also for a longer time period after drainage treatment, whereby it should always be checked, if it has not come to another pneumothorax again.
The emphysema of the skin has to be directly seen by a physician. Does it deal in here with a finding that occurred directly during the drainage therapy and is now regressive or does it show an increasement? Without having seen you as a patient and without knowing your exact history, one cannot answer these questions.

Yours sincerely,
Yours
