Blood sugar check after meals as well?
- Question
- Dear Expert Team,
my doctor told me to check my blood sugar, and I have been doing that for three days now. Is it sufficient if I do that before breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or do I have to check after all my meals as well?
Many thanks,

- Dear questioner,
Blood sugar testing is the most important basis for therapy adjustment with Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes (CFRD). Measurement before meals points to the expected need for insulin and to the sufficient or possibly too high dosage of the previous administration. Measurement after meals (usually two hours after) shows whether the insulin dosage was appropriate to the food and whether the blood sugar is within standard range again. Therefore, it is clear that “post-meal” measurements are reasonable and necessary.
