Ataluren® and Bramitob®

Question
I have CF and the mutations F508del & L732X. I am 29 years old and I take for many years Bramitob® (Tobramycin for inhalation). Can I take Ataluren®?
Answer
Dear friend,
You have CF and the mutations F508del & L732X.
Indeed, you could take Ataluren®, but not when you inhale Bramitob®. According to current studies Ataluren® in not effective when the patient is on inhaled tobramycin, like Bramitob®. It is, however, effective for patients who did not use inhaled tobramycin.
Just right now a multi-centre study is being conducted to confirm the above results.
Yours friendly,
Dr. Stavros Doudounakis
