Living at the seaside

Question
Hello,
Is living at the seaside providing any benefits or otherwise a risk of aggravation for a CF patient?
Thank you
Answer
Hello,

I am not aware of articles in the scientific literature describing the risk or benefit of a life at the seaside for cystic fibrosis patients. Note however that the sea water due to high salt concentration, is not a favorable environment for the development of germs.

By cons, there are many scientific publications that show the impact of the environment and climate on the evolution of cystic fibrosis and in particular lung infections. Several studies indicate that the summer season, particularly high temperatures in wetlands close to the equator can play an important role in the colonization of cystic fibrosis patients with Gram-negative bacteria known as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and non-tuberculous mycobacteria.

Hope this answer can help.
Best wishes
