Thyroid gland and CF

Question
Hello,
what effects does the illness of CF has in general on the function of the thyroid gland?
And are the values in the CF centers checked regularly? So, would an over- or under-function came out? Or does one has to look for it specifically?
Thank you
Answer
Dear questioner,
a direct correlation between the function of the thyroid gland and CF is not known. Therefore the thyroid values are not part of the routine investigations in case of CF and are therefore not tested for routinely. In case of suspicion of an impaired function of the thyroid gland one has to test for it specifically in case of CF patients as well as in case of all other patients as well.
Best regards,
Yours
