Anal fistula
- Question
- Is there a connection between a recurrent anal fistula and CF?
- Answer
- Dear questioner,
recurrent anal fistulas are not typical for the clinical picture of CF. However there is an above average accumulation of Crohn's disease in the population of CF patients. In Crohn patients, anal fistulas occur quite often. In case a CF patient has recurrent anal fistulas, one has to look for Crohn's disease. That inculdes endoscopies of the small and large bowel, as well as an MRT investigation of the whole small bowel with contrast agent. The patient should be seen by an experienced gastro-enterologist.
