Candida albicans
- Question
- Can Candida albicans be transmitted from the lungs to the partner by kissing or via other ways?
- Answer
- Dear questioner,
Like other micro-organisms (viruses, bacteria, fungi), Candida albicans (that belongs to the yeastlike fungi) can be transmitted via close body contact and thus by kissing. For most persons this is not so important to know since this fungus is not particularly pathogen. However, certain person groups are endangered by this germ, like diabetics, babies (oral thrush, diaper dermatitis) and especially persons with a weak immune system. It is, though, not clear which role Candida albicans plays for CF patients – probably it is not of great importance.
Best regards,
