chronic fatique

Question
Hello,
I'm 34 and I have cystic fibrosis, with a FEV1 of about 40%. I sleep at least 10 hours a night and I often need to recover in the day also. So I spend several days a week to sleep. Fatigue is mutli-factorial and complex, but I wonder if those adults with cystic fibrosis suffer from it often and much. Thank you for your response.
Answer
Hello,

To be tired is frequent complain of cystic fibrosis patients. Chronic disease is responsible of tiredness. The disease in itself and chronic infection are responsible. A study shows that patients with pseudomonas aeruginosa colonization have less vitality than patients with no colonization.

Quality of life measure shows equally anxiety and depression as frequent complains of cystic fibrosis patients particularly in case of disease aggravation. Tiredness and associated sleepy disorders could be integrated in clinical manifestation of depression.

Another factor could have influence on tiredness is the day time reserved to treatment. Those are indispensable but time consumers… This time must not be taken instead of rest and sleep, which is attractive when planning is busy !

Good luck
Sincerely yours
Dr Isabelle Danner-Boucher
