Your question is very interesting:
Staphylococcus aureus is a bacterium present everywhere in the environment and generally in humans who are eather sick, who are carriers of lesions or who are healthy carriers.
The transmission of this bacterium is mainly inter-human, especially through hands and therefore it is not contagious by air.
So you can visit your aunt and close contact is possible after rigourous hand washing and / or sanitizing with alcoholic gel for your aunt, and of course no contact with the sores or wounds.
It seems prudent to ask your aunt weather if the staphylococcus aureus is resistant to methicillin (MRSA) because in this case, your son should avoid to visit her.
