KALYDECO®

Question
KALYDECO® is beneficial for the mutation G551D and some other mutations causing the same problem.
I read that the KALYDECO® would neutralize gastric acidity. Am I to understand that this positive effect would apply also to the G551D mutation (and similar mutations) or probably to all patients with CF?
Thank you in advance for your answer.
Answer
Only in patients with the G551D mutation and being treated by KALYDECO®, measurements of pH in the intestine showed a recovery of bicarbonate secretion by the pancreas. Bicarbonate is buffering stomach acid in the duodenum, the pH is then less acidic, resulting in improved efficiency of pancreatic enzymes.
