KALYDECO®
- Question
- KALYDECO® is beneficial for the mutation G551D and some other mutations causing the same problem.
I read that the KALYDECO® would neutralize gastric acidity. Am I to understand that this positive effect would apply also to the G551D mutation (and similar mutations) or probably to all patients with CF?
Thank you in advance for your answer.
- Answer
- Only in patients with the G551D mutation and being treated by KALYDECO®, measurements of pH in the intestine showed a recovery of bicarbonate secretion by the pancreas. Bicarbonate is buffering stomach acid in the duodenum, the pH is then less acidic, resulting in improved efficiency of pancreatic enzymes.
