Poultry keeping?

Question
Hello,

We have two children, 4 and 6 years old. Our little daughter has CF. We are thinking about buying chickens. Would you advise against it because of MRSA or other pathogens?
She will, of course, not clean the chicken house.
Thank you.
Answer
Dear questioner,

especially in intensive mass animal farming the keeping of poultry can cause problems with various pathogens. However, if chickens are kept in small houses and if these are cleaned very regularly, no particular problems for CF children should arise. This applies especially for the colonisation of the airways with pathogens that can be transferred by chicken.
