Inhaled salmeterol/fluticasone (Seretide®)

Question
Hello, I would know something about the intention to inhale salmeterol/fluticasone (Seretide 50®) each day, even when the child is not secreting. Thanks very much.
Answer
Hello and thanks for your question.
The inhalative treatment you are telling about is an anti-asthmatic treatment. In case of cystic fibrosis the association with bronchial inflammation is frequent. This latter may induce episodes of wheezing or of dry cough, or an improvement of the pulmonary function test values after salbutamol inhalation, for instance. If a treatment with inhaled salmeterol/fluticasone is started, then the efficacy will be maximal in case of daily treatment. Therefore it is important to medically evaluate regularly the correct indication of this drug. That’s why I propose to contact your CF practitioner.
With my best regards,
Prof Jean-Christophe Dubus
