Asthma and cystic fibrosis

Question
My 3-year-old daughter makes regularly asthma attacks in spite of a thorough treatment with fluticasone. Could this deteriorate faster her disease?
Answer
Hello,

Sometimes, CF patients can present symptoms of asthma completely independently of the CF respiratory symptoms. It's particularly frequent in young children (between 4 and 5 patients of 10 according to North American data). However, these data doesn't allow us to assert that they "deteriorate" the disease. In certain cases, these "asthmatic" symptoms are only passing and become blurred in the course of time. In certain children, in particular those presenting a family predisposition to develop allergic diseases (we speak about atopic background), these symptoms of asthma can persist.

Cordially,
