CF and a child with auto-immune hepatitis

Question
Hello,
my daughter is 7 years old and suffers from CF, in her class there is a child who suffers from an auto-immune hepatitis. My daugther has already had Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the throat swab several times, is there a risk for transmission? Or is there in general a danger for one of the two children? As a child with auto-immune hepatitis, does one have another germ spectrum than healthy children? Shall the children go into different classes?
Many thanks for your advice.
Answer
Dear questioner,
many thanks for your question.
An auto-immune hepatitis is a rare, acute or chronic inflammatory auto-immune disease of the liver. The own immune system is here attacking the liver cells, therefore a hepatitis results. The treatment is an immuno-suppressive treatment for a period of time.
In summary, the child with the auto-immune hepatitis is not more contagious for your child than any other child. About the colonization with Pseudomonas of your child the following can be said: Pseudomonas is a wide-spread ground- and water germ (humid germ), that lives in humid environments (besides humid ground and surface waters also in tap water, sinks, showers, toilets, washing machines, devices for dialysis, drugs and disinfectants). The treating physician of the child with auto-immune hepatitis has to decide, if precaution measures have to be taken for the child with auto-immune hepatitis (especially in phases of immuo-suppressive therapy).
I hope to have helped you with this. Please talk to your CF center about these possiblities.

Best regards,
PD Dr. Sabina Schmitt-Grohé
