Blood test

Question
Hello,
With a blood test, can you find out if there is an infection in a CF patient? Is there a link to white blood cells?
Thank you for your reply

Answer
Hello,

The level of white blood cells in the blood (leukocytes) may increase due to some infections.

Unfortunately, because of their local character (bronchi), most infections occurring with CF are not systematically accompanied by an increase in leukocyte count.

On the other hand, in patients with the most severe respiratory disease, leucocyte levels may remain elevated beyond any episode of infection.

Therefore, this criterion alone does not make it possible to know whether there is infection or not.

Best regards.
