Smecta®
- Question
- Hello,
In these periods of gastrointestinal epidemics or other causes of diarrhea, is smecta® contraindicated for a young CF patient in case of severe diarrhea and severe stomach pain? I read that this medicine was fixed to the mucus.
Thank you! - Answer
- Hello,
Smecta® (Diosmectitum, a rinsed natural sludge) is sometimes used in acute diarrhea as a symptomatic treatment to decrease stool discharge. In the case of cystic fibrosis, the use of Smecta is most often possible over a short period of time, but it is especially important to associate oral rehydration with Oral Rehydration Solution to prevent the risk of acute dehydration.
