Pseudomonas after lung transplant

Question
Dear expert team,

is Pseudomonas aeruginosa dangerous for a CF patient after a lung transplant?

Kind regards,
S. N.
Answer
Dear Ms. N.,

Pseudomonas aeruginosa may constitute a risk even for immunocompromised patients. Due to the necessity of life-long immunosuppresion, patients with a lung transplant have a suppressed immune defense and are therefore more susceptible to infections -- with, among others, Pseudomonas aeruginosa as well.

Yours Dr. Ch. Smaczny
