Blood exams

Ερώτηση
Hello,
Our CF 20-month-old son had several blood tests. For several months (approximately one year), platelets are elevated (700-800G) as well as white blood cells (more specifically lymphocytes: 10G). Can you explain us what it means? What is the impact on the prognostic level?
Thank you,
cordially
Απάντηση
Hello,
It's difficult to say something about individual examinations.
The increase in platelets is sometimes secondary to infectious or inflammatory situations, or to a treatment with corticosteroids.
This can be seen in cystic fibrosis, with no prognostic value.
As for the lymphocytes, the current rate you specify is at the upper limit for age, so in standards.
The doctor who follows your child has all the examinations and their evolution and will probably inform you more precisely.
Best regards
Dr. Michèle Gérardin
