Co-enzyme Q10

Ερώτηση
Dear expert team,
I am suffering from CF and in a recent investigation of my blood, a lack of Conzyme Q10 was found. I found out that Conenzyme Q10 is fat-soluble. Is that the reason, that in case of CF, a lack is found more frequently? Are there any studies on the topic? Can Conenzyme Q be given via an infusion, as I worry that the pills could not be resorbed well due to the fat-soulble feature.
Many thanks for your answer.

Hello,
indeed the resorption of Conenzyme Q10 in case of CF is dependet on the digestion of fat, so that an adequate intake of pancreatic enzymes is of great importance. Due to inflammatory processes in the body free radicals occur. Coenzyme Q10 as an anti-oxidative substance regenerates Vitamin C and E, which are used for the degradation of radicals. The more inflammatory processes are in the body, so more Coenzyme Q10 is needed.
Conenzyme Q10 (also called Ubiquinon/Ubiquinol) is in many different kinds of food, especially in meat, fatty fishes, eggs, whole weat cereals, rice, soja products, nuts and vegetables (especially in broccoli and spinach). in generel, about 10 mg is the intake via food daily. Furhtermore, it is synthesized by the body itself. This leads to a good supply with the amino-acids L-Thyrosin, L-Phenylalanin (soja-beans, emmentaler cheese, peanuts, almonds, tuna fish, beef filet) and L-Methionin (salmon, shrimps, chicken breast..), b-vitamins and vitamin C. Ubiquinon can be turned into the active form Ubiquinol via a good supply with zink (oat flakes, yolk and cacao) and selen (paranut, yolk, beef/veal).
In case there is an increased need due to chronic inflammation or a lack, an oral supplementation as well as an increased intake of the mentioned food will be sufficient. The supplement is taken together with a fatty meal. The intake of pancreatic enzymes should be increased and taken in the course of the meal. I would recommend to have the blood values tested again after 3 months of consequent substitution. Intravenous intake is possible, however not the route of choice due to the risks of an intravenous application.
Here are some studies on CF and Coenzyme Q 10:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20961818/
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17569601/

As you will experience, the oral intake of Conenzyme Q10 would be sufficient to increase the serum value.

Best regards,
