CF or not ?!?!?

Question
As baby I was tested for CF. Now I’m 36 years. After long considerations and more testing I received the final answer “no” but with obvious hesitation in the physician’s voice. My whole live I’ve been tired, I have mucus, suffer from sinusitis, I always have a cold and I always have a lot of stools.
In the end I found a physician who diagnosed mild CF, and there are further investigations being done.
I would really like to know whether I have CF or not. Thank you for your answer.
Answer
Thank you for your interesting question. Of course, we cannot answer by mail whether you have CF or not.
However, we can state that in addition to classic CF, there are indeed milder forms of CF. For patients with whom traditional diagnostics tests (sweat test, genetic testing) are inconclusive it is necessary to do specific diagnostic tests to assess CFTR function in the nose or intestines. The past years there has been a lot of progress using these tests to diagnose people with possible mild forms of CF and more importantly … to give them appropriate and good treatment.
You can read more about these milder forms in the archives under the topic diagnostics.
In Holland more than one CF doctor is well aware of these milder forms. They also have all the necessary infrastructure to perform these specific tests.
Kind regards
