I vaguely heard of NB-401. It is an aerosol that would combat bacterial strains highly resistant to current treatments.
Could you tell me a little more? ongoing studies?

Hello,
The nano-emulsions are preparations containing water droplets or oil of nanometric size, which can be prepared using ultrasound.
Some nano-emulsions have antimicrobial and antiviral properties.
The nano-emulsion NB-401 (company NanoBio, USA) is manufactured by emulsification of cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), poloxamer 407 and ethanol in water with soybean oil using a high speed emulsifier.

A study was conducted to test the activity "in vitro" of NB-401 on a panel of multi-resistant bacteria from patients with cystic fibrosis.
The results conclude to a potential role of NB-401 as an antimicrobial agent for the treatment of infection due to opportunistic pathogens in the context of this disease. These pathogens should not develop resistance to a nanoemulsion due to his mechanism: interaction with the membrane and cause bacterial lysis.

Toxicity studies after inhalation of NB-401 by animals have been completed. No complications were noted and the animals tolerated the treatment.

So NB-401 could be used with other treatments nebulization in patients with cystic fibrosis to combat infection.

It is a trail to follow, but to our knowledge there are no ongoing clinical trial to date.
